Eulogy for Mandla Mhlanga
On 30 January 2016, our Manager, Mr Mandla Mhlanga was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident.
At the time of his death, Mandla was managing the Ann Harding Cheshire Home, but his association with Cheshire Homes South Africa had been a very long one.
Mandla started his career with Cheshire Homes at the Elethu Daveyton Home, where he managed for 5 years. He then moved on to the Soweto Cheshire Home and was Manager there for 7 years. We were then very fortunate to have Mandla join the Ann Harding Cheshire Home in March 2013, where he was Manager until his tragic death. In addition to these roles, Mandla also played a vital role in the Cheshire Homes Gauteng Branch, where he served as a Board Member.
Mandla was partially paralysed in a shooting accident, and was wheelchair bound. He had an incredible ability to patiently listen to the plight of others with a deep understanding and empathy that few of us would be able to offer a person in need, and his ability to diffuse conflict situations was remarkable. Mandla was an effective leader and communicator, who was loved and respected by the Ann Harding Cheshire Home Residents and their Families and Friends, as well as the staff of the Home.
Rest in Peace Mandla, you are sorely missed.
